Care about IT (hereinafter CaIT) is a Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) that intends to revolutionise the healthcare landscape through technology. The HealthTech hackathon method was developed within the framework of the CaIT project in Estonia. Participating partners are from Estonia, Italy, the Netherlands and Finland.
These guidelines provide a structured, evidence-based approach to preparing a HealthTech hackathon customised for Vocational Education and Training (VET) students. Based on scientific literature and proven practices from national and international hackathons previously organised by CaIT, the guidelines define clear objectives and principles that stimulate creative problem-solving, interdisciplinary collaboration, and innovation in healthcare.
The guidelines detail the roles and responsibilities of organisers, students, mentors, and jury members, emphasising the transdisciplinary nature of HealthTech hackathons, where technology and healthcare expertise converge. They also present a practical planning and timeline framework that supports the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of the event — ensuring that participants co-create meaningful, socially relevant solutions for patient care, public health, and healthcare technology.
